Our Story
The 19 Hills Health and Wellbeing Centre in Ringland, east Newport, will open in early 2025, hosted by Aneurin Bevan University Health Board. The centre will host a variety of community NHS and third sector services, two independent GP practices and a neighbourhood hub owned by Newport City Council, and will largely serve two electoral ward areas, Ringland and Alway.
Ringland was developed in the 1950s to accommodate workers for the former Llanwern steelworks. The area has much greenspace, an emerging community health collaborative and a strong social fabric. Our 19 Hills CIC will promote the health and wellbeing of the communities of Ringland and Alway that will be served by the £28 million wellbeing centre, bringing independent funding and the voice of local residents to ensure quality health and wellbeing services in the centre. We will work with partners more widely to improve job opportunities, quality housing, energy security and other areas for the local population, recognising the importance these areas have for people’s health and wellbeing.
Our Activities
19 Hills Wellbeing Centre
We will work with local services to make sure they are integrated, holistic, focussed on prevention, with the right services and activities in the centre to support local assets and need.
Community health development in Ringland & Alway
Our CIC and members will, working with local residents, work to strengthen connections, opportunities and physical assets in the community to benefit local health, wellbeing and agency.
Building blocks for health in the community
We will work with local partners, third and statutory sector organisations and businesses to increase and improve opportunities in employment, education, energy generation, outdoor space and more, as we work on the building blocks that truly shape health and wellbeing in our area.
